This Song is Our Song is an interactive presentation that provides students with an introduction to the history and styles of American folk music. Students will hear examples of many types of folk music - including traditional songs with British and Scottish roots, songs based on actual events and folk heroes, children's game songs, African-American work songs, more recent American folksongs such as those composed by Woody Guthrie, and contemporary popular songs that utilize aspects of folk music. Students are asked to participate in the activity songs, to relate songs they know to the songs performed, and to consider how songs have changed over time.

Musician-educators Bill Haymes and Tim Lorsch perform on violin, mandolin, guitar and piano during the presentation. Bill Haymes has presented music education programs to students throughout Arkansas, Tennessee and Georgia since the late 1970's. He has also worked as a resident songwriter in schools through state arts commission programs. Tim Lorsch is well known as an outstanding violinist and works as a both a studio musician and a live performer in Nashville.
